The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, with over 100 years of community science involvement. It is an early-winter bird census, where thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada count birds in established locations December 14 to January 5.

This year, we will count birds December 17 at our feeders for all skill levels to join and learn more about birds, counting birds, and the importance of Citizen Science.

Count volunteers will be counting every bird they see or hear. It's not just a species tally—all birds are counted all day, giving an indication of the total number of birds that live/visit the Center.

Stephanie Robinson, Environmental Education Specialist at Pennypack Environmental Center, oversees the Pennypack Valley count circle (Code is PAPV). While this is an opportunity for all birders to join, if you are an experienced birder and would like to learn more about additional count events, email Stephanie.Hoffer@phila.gov.
