April 21st and 22nd 10am to 4pm
The Penn Museum opens its long-awaited new Middle East Galleries with an opening weekend festival! Enjoy the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the region, past and present, during a two-day celebration filled with activities for all ages.
The weekend features traditional musical performances and drumming workshops; a Gilgamesh puppet show and Middle Eastern storytelling; ancient cuneiform tablet, cylinder seal, and Arabic calligraphy workshops; films, lectures, and meet-the-expert stations. A marketplace features tea, food and craft vendors, and a spice cart beckoning guests to smell, touch, and learn about the region’s spices. The Zoo on Wheels brings in animals from the Middle East, while outside, a local Iraqi Unity Cup team demonstrates football (soccer). Creative engineering activities, games, and crafts round out the activities. The Pepper Mill Café offers a special Middle East menu throughout the weekend.
The Opening Weekend is free with Museum admission
