An Indoor Summer Oasis Opens This February In West Park

The Horticulture Center opens its doors this weekend and reveal a summer themed oasis filled with lush green plants, a giant sand box, food trucks, and a beer garden. From Saturday, February 1 through Sunday, February 16, “Getaway at the Greenhouse” transforms the Center into a respite from the uncertain winter weather.

The 20,000 square foot space will be broken into five separate “rooms” with different themes. We listed them below.

  • The Jungle – GAIA installation, traveling zoos, kids rock DJ, face painting, balloon artists

  • The Beach – Oversized sandbox for an indoor beach escape

  • The Midway – Local food truck vendors and cash bar with craft beers, wine, and handcrafted cocktails

  • The Lawn – Green grass for lounging and lawn games

  • The Campground—Adirondack chairs and Live music

The hours vary during the week. If you want to stop in for lunch on a weekday, you can bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages from 9am until 3pm. Food and drink is available for purchase during weekends and evenings Wednesday through Friday. Click here to reserve a ticket and see the full list of dates, times, and performances.

West Fairmount Park is beautiful this time of year, but the Center offers a special break from the cold. “The Horticulture Center is one of the most attractive enclosed spaces in the park system. It is the perfect location to host a variety of fun indoor programming during the cold months,” said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell of the 2019 Getaway at the Greenhouse. “I am so excited to launch the ‘Getaway at the Greenhouse’ program at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center in West Fairmount Park.”
