Social Distancing Spotlight: The Schuylkill Center

The visitor center at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education (SCEE)  is now open Saturdays from 9am to 5pm, but remains closed on weekdays due to the pandemic. Visitors don’t have access to the indoor facilities during the week, but trails are open from dawn to dusk everyday so visitors can still enjoy this amazing park.

Spending time in nature is proven to increase our mental and physical health, and the Center has miles of trails through meadows, forests, and along ponds and streams. Visitors will find many serene areas here to relax and enjoy the benefits of nature. The Center’s trails are also part of the Circuit Trails network, which will eventually connect over 750 miles of the region's trails. Take advantage of the direct connection to the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) and plan a long walk or bike ride to explore other destinations on your visit.

The Center is a perfect stopping or starting point for a long bike ride on the SRT into Philadelphia or west to places like Valley Forge National Park and Phoenixville. The Center’s SRT gateway is about 2 miles and around 20 minutes along the SRT from Manayunk and a little over an hour from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. A bike rack is located at the SRT gateway trailhead, so you can secure your bike before you ascend the hill to the Center.

The GoPhillyGo Tours feature helps you explore destinations with a common theme, and if you are planning a long bike ride from the Center, use the Schuylkill and Perkiomen Confluence Tour  and the Schuylkill River Trail Center City Tours for directions to points of interest along the Schuylkill River Trail in Montgomery County or Center City Philadelphia.

The GoPhillyGo walkshed and bikeshed feature uses a highlighted overlay map to show you how far you can travel from a certain point in intervals of 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Use this feature to see what is near you, or how far you can travel along the SRT while you visit SCEE. Click here to see the walksheds and bikesheds for SCEE

Make sure you download the GoPhillyGo Android app or save the mobile site to your homescreen for directions to SCEE and many more amazing destinations across the region. Cover your face, and always follow the latest CDC guidelines every time you are outdoors. Take the time to be outside, and let GoPhillyGo help you plan your next adventure to the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.
