Update: Delaware River Towpaths Open to Bikes and Pedestrians

GoPhillyGo recently spoke with Joe Donnelly of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, who told us that the canal towpaths on the PA and NJ sides of the Delaware River in the vicinity of the Scudder Falls Bridge would be closed bikes and pedestrians until the end of the month due to ongoing construction related to replacing the functionally obsolete I-95 bridge crossing.

According to Donnelly, the work is progressing, and the expected closure has been lifted. He told GoPhillyGo there are no more long term closures expected, but people traveling along the towpath should be prepared for intermittent temporary closures when safety is a concern.

If you plan on traveling through this area, make sure you have a backup route planned on GoPhillyGo in case you encounter one of these closures. You can also get updates on when the trail will be closed on the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project’s website.
