This Week in the Watershed 1/25/21

Although most in person events are canceled due to the pandemic, plenty of virtual events are happening across the watershed this week! Check out our list for some of the events you might enjoy from Monday, January 25th through Sunday, January 31st. Join local parks and environmental centers to show off your trivia skills, help with a virtual cleanup, and do some yoga. Remember you can always click over to the events tab at GoPhillyGo.org to find more upcoming events.

Ongoing - Virtual Cleanup at a Location of Your Choice

Our friends at Bristol Marsh are hosting this virtual cleanup in lieu of their traditional MLK Day cleanup event. Through the end of the month create your own "quaran-team" and conduct an independent cleanup at a location near you. Each registered “quaran-team” will receive a gift card upon submission of their cleanup results!

Tuesday at 1:00pm - Tides and the Moon

Tune in to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge’s Facebook page to learn about the influence of tides on Tinicum Marsh and Darby Creek. Ranger Ben will be teaching this program about one of the most important natural forces on the refuge.

Tuesday at 6:00pm - Author Talk: Thomas Heinrich

Join Independence Seaport Museum and author Thomas Heinrich for a discussion on his new book, Warship Builders: An Industrial History of U.S. Naval Shipbuilding, 1922-1945, and learn about the role of Philadelphia-area shipbuilders in the construction of World War II vessels.

Wednesday at 5:30pm - Virtual Open House: West Fairmount Park

Learn about all the upcoming projects, programs, and volunteer events happening this year in West Fairmount Park. Join staff from Fairmount Park Conservancy & Philadelphia Parks and Recreation for this Zoom webinar and be in the know about everything coming to the park in 2021!

Thursday at 7:00pm - Virtual Nature Trivia

Show off your animal knowledge during the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education’s virtual trivia night! Registration is free and teams can be anywhere from 1-6 players. Teams who come in first, second, and third place will win prizes.

Sunday at 10:00 am - Virtual Greenhouse Yoga

Join Fairmount Park Conservancy for this free all levels yoga class! Normally this class is held in Fairmount Park Horticulture Center, but due to the pandemic it’s happening over zoom, so you can take part from the comfort of your home.
