Fish Ladder
The Fish Ladder was originally built in 1979 to help migrating fish continue upstream past the Fairmount Dam on the Schuylkill River. Today, the Philadelphia Water Department oversees the operation and maintenance of the Fish Ladder and even uses a video system to monitor migrating fish. The Fish Ladder is a great spot to take a break along MLK Drive and to catch a view of the Fairmount Water Works and Boathouse Row which is decorated to celebrate Hannukah, Christmas, and Kwanza throughout December.
