The Rosenbach of the Free Library of Philadelphia
The Rosenbach is a charming museum and library filled with rare books, manuscripts, fine arts and furniture. The collections are housed inside a restored 1880s rowhouse in Center City where brothers Dr. and Philip Rosenbach spent the final years of their lives. Both men were collectors and dealers of antiques and rare books. Neither married or had children, so when both passed away, the house and collection became part of the Rosenbach Foundation. Today, visitors can view letters from Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, Bram Stoker’s notes from Dracula, an extensive Herman Melville collection and a manuscript of world famous Irish author James Joyce’s book Ulysses.
