The Woodlands
This 54 acre Victorian era cemetery was named a National Historic Landmark District in 2005. Today it serves as a picturesque park like area where joggers and walkers can take a break from busy West Philadelphia to explore William Hamilton’s restored stone mansion, view many unique grave markers and find a number of species of birds that live in the trees throughout the grounds. A paved drive leads you around the mansion and through the cemetery, and there is also a dirt trail looping the entire perimeter. Biking is permitted on the paved road, and racks are located near the front gates and the stable. The cemetery is easily accessible by trolley routes 11, 13, 34 and 36.
